Assess Your Needs
9. Assess Your Needs
Think about whether you want your kitchen adjoining the
family room. You will need to determine whether you want to
watch the children playing in a totally separate space, where
you can make as much mess as you like and no one can see or
whether plenty of light and a tranquil garden outlook is
preferred. Do you need space for a desk, telephone and
mini-office in the hub of the house (this is an increasingly
popular option) or is it important that the kitchen be in easy
reach of the car so transferring groceries isn't a nightmarish
slog at the end of a long day?
If you are keen on outdoor activities, you might want it near
the pool so you can easily feed swimmers without wet feet
trekking across your floor, and you can throw together a salad
to complement the barbecued chops.
Maybe you hate barbecuing outside and prefer to do it in
style indoors and eat comfortably in the dining room. In this
event, the dining room shouldn’t be too far away so food stays
warm in transit.
Thoroughly confused? Don’t be, but it pays to hasten slowly.
