7. At The Breakfast Bar

The old saying has it that visitors go into the lounge and friends gravitate to the kitchen.

If that’s the way it is in your house, a breakfast bar is a good idea. Then friends can stand at the bar or pull up a stool for a chat while you continue cooking. If you opt for a raised countertop rather than an extension, your mess will be hidden and you can stand storage containers against the wall supporting the bar.
