Big is not best
1. Big is not best
The important point about kitchen planning is that big does
not necessarily equate with beautiful. Designers say many people
get seduced by space. They equate size with efficiency and find
out the hard way that the two are not necessarily compatible. At
the end of a long day slaving over a hot stove, their legs ache
from walking many steps more than the clever planner with a
compact U-shape, L-Shape or galley kitchen.
A good rule of thumb if you are planning the most popular
configuration of the U-shape design is to step out three paces
in either direction. This allows space for you to bend and
reach, and for cabinet and appliance doors to open, yet
eliminates unnecessary floor space.
